Our environmental policy
Abbey Plastics is celebrating its third anniversary of taking its first large contract based on recycling, rather than just cost and quality.
We offer all our customers the opportunity of having redundant stock collected and recycled and are pleased to report that many of our leading customers are making use of this facility.
Please talk to any member of our team to get further information but the most important green issues to be remembered are:
1) All the board we use (the inside material of binders) is always made from recycled material and has been for many years.
2) Almost all our ring metals are made from recycled steel from the motor industry.
3) All the plastics we use are thermoplastic and, therefore, melt when heated enabling them to be recycled economically and with ease.
Abbey Plastics has made the commercial decision to give environmental policies and carbon footprint issues top priority and hope all our customers support us in our green approach to doing business.
1. We will always ask customers to order materials in advance to requirements so they can be procured in exactly the correct sizes, eliminating all waste and ensuring best prices, a win-win situation for both ourselves and our customers (quick delivery requirements necessitate using incorrectly sized stock materials that can give up to 25% waste) whereas materials correctly purchased for a given job need have no waste whatsoever, reducing the order’s carbon footprint significantly.
2. We will always try to reduce the order’s carbon footprint by purchasing our ring metals from suppliers that use metal/steel that has come from recycled metal from the motor industry. We are one of only a few industries that need not use top grade steel as our products can be successfully made using steel that others would reject because of safety issues.
3. All board purchased by us for the last 4 years has been made from one hundred percent recycled material. We are, as you can imagine, a massive user of board for the inside of binders.
4. The plastics we use are made from one hundred percent by-product of the refinement of oil to petroleum and are, therefore, totally environmentally friendly as long as society has a petroleum (petrol) requirement.
All material that is not made into product by Abbey Plastics is returned to be recycled for future production. All our plastics are thermoplastic, i.e. it melts or softens when heated and, therefore, can be recycled both economically and with ease.
